OARS, and stands.

What kind of oars and oar stands are you using. I'm thinking of going to an older set of 8 ft oars off an old whitewater boat. What are the options.

Do you mean "what kind of rowlocks are you using?" In case that is correct, for our rowing, we used the circular kind, not the "u"shaped kind, and we kept retainers on the oars. For the dinghy we had, we used 7 footers, but 8 is very nice, if they'll fit in the boat.

Thanks for the replies. Ann, I wasn't sure what sailors called them, so I used the term stands. Some disciplines use different names. Snow, I'll have to look into that brand.

The truth of the matter is, I'm trying to be cheap. I've got 18/20 pairs of oars for my other hobby. Had hoped to adapt the smaller sets, used on 12 ft whitewater rafts, to my dingy.

The set in the ding, are so short, their painful to use, the rowing position is a kind of Chicken wing position, with the oar tips in the water, your oar tips are almost over my head.

A little longer oar, makes the rowing much more comfortable, and keeps the handle directly in front of me, for a better pull/ push stroke of the oars.
