Installing Cut-Off Switch on Tohatsu

My Tohatsu 9.8hp outboard has a solid orange stop button.
I'd like to install a cord and safety pull off key.
Anyone done this on these models?
Do I need to install a whole new botton housing?

Nope, it's standard.

See Parts Manual, pages 13 & 14.
Item 5.16.1 is the safety lanyard (red wrist leash in picture) that goes under the emergency stop button 5.16.

hmm - I'll have to replace my stop button/switch.
Mine is a solid unit with no recess for a pull off clip.

One version has the round button with the "Y"clip under it attached to the red lanyard. Another version has a conventional up-down toggle switch with two walls on either side and a wall over the top. The safety lanyard had a plastic ring that is inserted between the toggle and the top. Pulling the lanyard moves the toggle from top to bottom turning off the engine.
- - My experience with both systems is that they start to fail, especially the round button - and you cannot start the engine unless you wiggle and pull on the stop button as the plastic "Y" clip shrinks.
- - I would think any "normally open" pull-on switch into which you can drill a small hole and insert a tiny cotter pin to hold the switch in the "on"/closed position would be better than the plastic "Y" clip. Or anything that replaces that plastic "Y" clip with a metal piece.
