Ideal 2400 tender for 36 footer

Hi everyone,

I purchased a New Zealand made Smartwave 2400, which is plastic with positive buoyancy. I've had it since about June but only managed to use it half a dozen times due to my useless new engine failing.

Today I tested it out quite a bit and have concluded its really quite uncomfortable and impossible to sit in the back transome whilst operating the tiller on the motor. It's rated to 6hp and I have a 3.5hp on it. With my weight of about 100kg and the outboards, then it's simply too much weight on the back. So, to operate it, you basically have to sit in the middle and reach around behind you. Not very comfortable at all.

What is the ideal tender for a boat my size and made out of what? I have davits to which to lift it up on the pushpit. So, I don't want anything bigger than 2400.

A Dinghy that Will plane with 5 horsepower is pretty cool. Notice he has a tiller extension and sitting on the middle seat. With any small dinghy you have to sit towards the middle. My advice would be to keep the Dinghy and get a5-6 horsepower outboard and a tiller extension. I've also used planing fins also called dolphin fins that you put on the cavitation plate with some Dinghys it makes a huge difference other Dinghys not so much

The shorter the boat the harder it is to get over the "hump" and onto the plane. A piece of 40mm or so PVC pipe usually does the trick as a tiller extender. Costs a couple of bucks at the hardware store and just cut it to the correct size.
