Re: Honda 5 hp outboard floods and quits

I know this sounds odd, but my super reliable 5 hp Honda started acting up. It would start fine then not restart. Seemed to be flooding then starving for fuel. Changed the fuel filter, checked and everything looked good.
I replaced the quick connect on the fuel line to the engine and it’s back to normal.
Good luck,
Ray

Re: Honda 5 hp outboard floods and quits

Same issue for my Honda 5hp. It would start, run for 30 seconds and then fuel would come up and out of the overflow...stall. My fix was adjusting the float. When I took the carb apart, I noticed that the float was dropping down pretty low in the bowl. To me, that meant it was displacing fuel and causing the flooding/stalling. I just bent the small tab that controls how low the float can go so that it would only drop a very little bit. With the float movement limited, I put everything back together and she runs like a top...no more flooding/stalling. Amazing how one small adjustment like that can change your life : )
