Dinghy Name?
Do most people label their dingy/tender with a name? If so is it required? I know my state (RI) requires reg numbers on both sides but I havent investigated a name yet.
Thought I would inquire here as I have seen a wealth of information on this forum.
Thank you!

Re: Dinghy Name?
Ours has no name or numbers but I see many that have "Tender to X" on them?

Re: Dinghy Name?
We have no identifing marks or name on our dinghy other than state registration numbers & annual sticker. It is common to see dinghies with lettering, T/T "X", but I've heard others suggest that such a named dinghy seen at the town dock can signal that the boat is unattended in the anchorage. I mention this observation, but I've not been cruising in areas that are subject to thefts and I wouldn't hesitate to place the boat name on the dinghy.

Why not leave a supersized note on your front door, saying 'not home'?

We have a wooden plywood Seahopper dinghy. Since my wife spent some time in Japan, we call her, "Origami."

Re: Dinghy Name?
In our locale the dinghy is required to show state regestration numbers and a current sticker.
A previous boat we had was named "CareFree". Named the dink Careless".

Excellent!
Our boat is named "Sapphire". We're trying to decide whether to name the dinghy "Bombay" or "Kingfish". I've worried about the "T/T XXX" for the reasons mentioned. No name required in New England waters. Registration numbers are required though we went many years in Massachusetts without registering the inflatable and outboard. It became something of a PITA once we got around to it since the documentation was several years old.

Re: Dinghy Name?
The boat is DayOne, so the dinghy is DayTwo...
But we only put the registration number on the tender and no name for obvious reasons

Re: Dinghy Name?
If you plan to go cruising in other countries, you may find that the "t/t xxx" is required in lieu of a separate dinghy rego.
Cheers,

Re: Dinghy Name?
Schooner Javelin, pram Dart. No registration required in WA for unmotorized vessels under 16'. I anchored all over in my last two large sailboats and never had a theft problem - though a couple once got married aboard in my absence and left me a photo!!
