Re: Dinghy Name?
Ours is named "Rule Bender".
Good to not give it your boats name.
Thieves are very observant.
The times we've caught thieves they are usually visiting guests or friends of a kid who's parents or grand parents have a boat moored/slipped/anchored nearby.
Or they work, or are friends of those that work in the Marina for min wage so a nice anchor, iPod etc make for an easy cash re-sell.
We're pretty good at catching them. We're hoping to get a You Tube this summer when we catch another.
They are far more bolder than I can ever recall in the past.
The popularity of powder drugs has brought out the daring in them.
If they get away ya can only hope they just stole something, not commited any vandalism on your boat or personal crime to a member of your group.

Re: Dinghy Name?
My dinghy is named Scrim, not related to her parent ship KEET. I also have a yak named bike. In an effort to confuse, I named my bike kayak.

Re: Dinghy Name?
You better name those boats if you are going to venture out of swimming distance in them!

Certainly not, but I have found that it works in Australia, where the "t/t" has defused several situations where our unregistered RIB has been pulled over by overzealous LEO's of various stripes. It placated the gendarmes in New Caledonia when we were not carrying all the silly things they require of their nationals. It's been a few years, but I believe that the same applied in NEw Zealand, and we've never had any worries in the small island nations.
Cheers,
Jim

Re: Dinghy Name?
In BC a dinghy with a motor greater than 9.9 hp must be registered and display those registration numbers on both sides of the bow. There are other rules. We just named ours Li'l Joule (mother ship: Joule). Our neighbor (2 slips over) has a mother ship named Goldbug and the dinghy is called
Li'l Nugget. Cheers,
Bill

Re: Dinghy Name?
Realizing the point of this thread is not to share dinghy names I thought I would ignore the OP and share ours. ;-)
Our dink is named Moonshine, to go with the name of our previous boat Sonshine. Now our boat is Scoundrel so the name sorta fits but not as well. I thought of rechristening her but then we will loose the people toasting us with their Jack Daniels as we row by in the anchorage.
We don't require registration numbers as she is not motorized.

Re: Dinghy Name?
Simply the boat name.
Of course over here no dinghy registration required, so only way of identifying where a floating (empty) dink came from would be if the vessel name was on it. But mostly I guess it is simply tradition / habit.

"T/T" is only acceptable (alternative to registration) when the Tender is actually on "ship's business".
