Dinghy Motor Recommendations- Update

Well, I went ahead and bought a new Yamaha 15hp 4 cycle. I was a little concerned about the weight, but so far that is not an issue.

The biggest differenceI see at this point between my old Suzuki 15 2 cycle and this new Yahama is the Yahamas doesn't appear to have as much 'power' out of the hole. It takes longer to get up on plane, if at all, as my old Suzuki.
I have followed the 'break-in' procedures and kept at slow speeds for the 1st hour and have not run it longer than 5 mins at top speed after that until I complete 8 more hours, I think.
I may need to add Dol-fins to help with out of the hole preformance. I'll see.
I am pushing a 2003 Caribe 10', heavy dink.

Talk to the dealer about the prop before you put fins on the motor. You may need a different pitch.

Just came across this thread.

Was interesting to see what everyone was using for dinghies and motors at Key West a few weeks back.

I run a new 2 stroke Mercury 8HP on a 3 metre inflatable with rubber bottom. Boat is 100lb's and the motor isn't really big enough, or possibly it needs one of those sting-ray things to get it on the plane quicker. It gets on the plane but we need the weight and tank well forward to make that happen quicker than slowly.
