Dinghy for 26' sailboat

I wouldn't cruise without a hard dinghy that rows well. There are 6 and 7-foot fiberglass prams out there (Montgomery?) that should fit on your foredeck. We had a 7-footer on our 27-foot cruising boat. You could get plans for a nutshell-style pram to build out of plywood and epoxy as well.
Port-a-bote would be a plan B if I couldn't find a pram.

Great little boat. Deflates to almost nothing. Yet it feels safe and stable. It has excellent oars and oarlocks, meant for use (not just for show, like some newer boats). They are great little boats that will last forever.

I used one for several years on a C&C25. Easy to tow, but also fit easily into the bottom of the hanging locker, or in a corner of the vee berth.

We have recently changed to a Talamex lightweight inflatable floor dinghy.
German made material, only 14 kilos weight, folds up small and can row or take a 5hp motor.


We have a 12 metre motorsailer but the dinghy, like the previous one, is stored upside down on the pilothouse roof. First Mate and I are mid 70's so the new Talamex at only 14 kilos is a big plus. I can pull it up by hand, first mate guides the sticky out bits away from the guard rails and roof edge while I am on the pilothouse roof.
It folds up really small and performs well.

I've been using a 16'6" Folboat Cooper Kayak on my Bristol 27.

I keep it assembled and on the side deck ready to go.

In Winter, I remove the "skin."
