Dinghy Combination Lock that Doesn't Corrode
I've tried a few combination locks because I don't want to worry about loosing the key. Unfortunately they only lasts a few months and start to fail.
Has anyone found a reliable combination lock that lasts in the salty marine environment?

The west marine brass combo was quite good but I think it’s discontinued...... however, I found this.

Unfortunately, that's a very common combination lock, available on Amazon for about $15. I've used several in a salty environment and cannot recommend them for that purpose. It takes a lot of oil to keep them working.

Hey, guys, that's still the same padlock. You're paying a bunch of money for the "marine" label.

Re: Dinghy Combination Lock that Doesn't Corrode
I have used the ABUS combo locks for some time and have had very good success with them. tkeithlu is correct when he says it is best to oil them from time to time. I have done that with WD40, but not more than twice a year and sometimes less than that. Nonetheless, I have had fairly good service from them.
Having said this, it is best to not leave them out if they are going to get soaked with saltwater. I just use them to lock things when I am not around.

Are you? I've had sesame locks on my boat for over 20 years. Never a failure.
It might look the same but are they?
One thing to note is all my locks are old. It is quite possible the manufacturing has been cheapened over the years. IDK.

McMaster Carr caries a Master Lock all SS combo which I’ve only used for few months in fresh water. I use it along with a SS land yard which I also got from MC.
Kinda pricy but so far so good.

Abus has been good for us since 2011 when we purchased the boat so may have been there since 2008 from original owner.

Our ABUS combination lock is at least 10 years old and is still working perfectly.

Our abus(sesame) chrome bronze dinghy lock is 2008 vintage. Still just fine. I’ve generously lubed it with corrosion block (blue goo), wiped clean and left it in the sun for a few days. Not a single problem, occasionally it oozes but operates smoothly.

Master Lock cable combination with coated wire and plastic combination numbers. No corrosion after 2+ years on the San Francisco Bay.

Re: Dinghy Combination Lock that Doesn't Corrode
If they get gummed up with salt from sitting exposed too much, put then in a cup of vinegar for a minute or two and it will fix the problem. Be sure to RINSE afterward with fresh water or the acidic vinegar will eat away the innards.
