Best Sailing Dinghy

Any suggestions for a sailing dinghy? This would just be for fun after anchoring - going for a sail around the harbor. It would not replace the RIB with its outboard.

I've looked at the Gig Harbor Navigator (10ft) and the Trinka 10. Any others I should look at?

I would assume that a wind surf would be perfect and it could probably double as paddle board.

Built your own :-)

I married a Spindrift 10 hull with a Laser deck.

Quite nice:

One thing I would do differently though I'd built the hull from foam and glass instead of plywood.
The 6mm plywood was overkill.

Still, fun to sail, row and motor.
Best is the forward locker in which I could even sleep if I ever wanted too :-)

Re: Best Sailing Dinghy

If I had my druthers I’d probably look into a Whitehall dory. They are beautiful and great to row when there is no wind too of course. Then I’ve seen them with Marconi and lug rigs but I saw a sprit rig on a different boat that used the oars for the sprit and boom. I thought that was kind of a cool, efficient use of parts.
‘Course that may be way too big for a dinghy... maybe the Pt Defiance then?

Another vote for the Spindrift 10. It will out sail just about everything in its class.

Re: Best Sailing Dinghy

If you can wait, OC Tenders is redoing their design of their Sailing Dinghy and it should be awesome! I traded emails with their VERY helpful office because they discontinued the sailing versions - seems the dingy owners did not adhere to the Dinghy Manual Instructions and put 20HP motors on and did 20kts (which you can do because it is so light) BUT the instructions said not to do so because the daggerboard case showers water into the dinghy - oops. We have a 330 ordered for our Outremer and as soon as the sailing version comes out we will be ordering one and selling ours...

And there are some great YouTube reviews/videos

Re: Best Sailing Dinghy

PT Watercraft makes a great sailing dinghy. I have the nesting version. Very light and efficient hull, foils and carbon fiber rig. Rows very well loaded and unloaded.
