Antifouling for a hypalon inflatable

I need to put antifouling on my Hypalon inflatable dinghy. I see three products to choose from: Pettit, Aquagard, and MDR. Does anyone here have experience with any of these paints?

I've used Aquaguard and have been happy with it. We keep the boat on the Chesapeake (Baltimore Inner Harbor) and the dink stays in the water all summer. Other than some light scumming (if it sits idle for too long) it's been good. It's best to apply it on a cloudy day as it thickens pretty quick. In the fall I pull and clean the dink, especially the bottom. I rescrub again in the spring and usually find that much, if not all of the paint flakes off. One other favorable feature is the price, much cheaper than the other brands. Although I'd still shop for it as like anything marine prices can vary from vendor to vendor.

Mike,
Thank you, that's encouraging. Last season my dinghy was sitting in the water on Maine all summer and the amount of growth on the bottom was unbelievable!

Ziggy, I know what you mean. It's only been the last couple of years that I've been using bottom paint on the dink. Previously I could beach it across from the marina we were in, something I'd do a couple of times a season. Even still it would take quite a while and lot of effort to lean her up. Can't imagine not painting it as long as I continue to keep it in the water full time.

Re: Antifouling for a hypalon inflatable

Well, I painted the bottom of my Avon with two coats of Aquagard and kept it in the water all summer. As of last weekend, the bottom was almost completely clean, with only a bit of slime here and there, and that came off very easily with a dobie pad and a garden hose.

The only issue in applying Aquagard is that on a hot day it evaporates quickly, even though it's water based. By the time I got to applying the second coat it was pretty thick (it still went on OK). So you need to keep it tightly covered and in the shade. There are no thinning instructions on the can, but the manufacturer told me that it can be thinned with a little water.

Overall, I'm a convert--it's a great product and the tech support is very good also.
