2 stroke Outboard in France

Hi there

I have "inherited" a 6hp yamaha 4 stroke on a 2.8m Avon Rib on my new (old) boat which is located in France (for now).

Basically its a damn heavy rig with the yammie weighing in at just under 40kg on an already heavy RIB for its size and it just barely gets me one up on a plane - add some gear and forget it.

I want to swap it for either a used or new 2 stroke 9.9 or 15hp so i can do some miles in it but can only find the heavy 4 stroke options here in France due to something about global warming (it would take alot of tender outboards to match the emmissions on 1 gas turbine generator but thats another story)

Anyway does anyone have any insight on how to buy a 2 stroke in France these days - is it possible to import them from an online retailer? Have been looking for 2nd hand options but they are rare as hens teeth in my local harbour at least.

thanks
barra

Re: 2 stroke outboard in France

Ok so no one has a view on whether you can import a 2 stroke into EU via online order.

Has anyone taken an outboard with them in their international luggage and if so how did that go?

Ive got my eye on a 23kg 9.9hp 2 stroke that meets luggage restrictions - how do you reckon I would go once i got to French airport???

cheers

Re: 2 stroke outboard in France

Only new technology (Direct Injection) spark ignition two stroke (for example, the Evinrude E-TEC range), spark ignition four stroke and compression ignition engines meet the new standards and are the only outboards which may be manufactured within, or imported into the EU now.
However, EVERY outboard motor in the EU prior to the implementation of the new standard CAN bebought, sold and used under the EU 2006 emissions directive.
