Yet another Soft Shackle method

I ran across this today and thought I would share. Brion Toss seems to think it will measure it at around 200% MLB of the line which is a step up from the diamond knot, and a bit lower than the button knot. So why consider it if the button is stronger? Simple, the stopper knot I sail dead simple to tie.

Even after making hundreds on soft shackles I still have to break out the diagrams to make the next one, but this knot can be learned the first time you watch the video, and will be easy to remember. So I can make them without needing to refer back to something.

Re: Yet another Soft Shackle method

Hi Greg
I think Evans designed and tested this and also a smaller version of this knot that was just created by passing the noose through the two loops, then through the new loop created. I think he did not use Brummel locks on his loops though, they were made with simple buries.

System strength was 230% of line strength, at which point is breaks at the noose end, not the stopper end.

His only warning was that the pair of loops had to be absolutely as tiny as possible, or the knot could collapse.
Like all soft shackles it should also be pretentioned and left to sit with load applied before use (I do this between two winches)

Like it! 👍 I've always worried about the original knots!

Re: Yet another Soft Shackle method

I ran across and tried this shackle a year or so ago. Using 3/8'' Amsteel, the only downside I saw was that it results in a huge knot compared to the button variation. Perhaps if I can find it, I'll take some comparison pictures.

Yes, its a whopper! The other simple version was smaller.
