Yale Cordage vs New Englan Ropes

Any opinion on using Yale compared to New England lines? Basic, I just use Stay-Set X, no high tech stuff. Good sales right now so thinking of some new running rigging.

In my mind, Yale, New England, and Samson all make good stuff. I'd choose based on specs, price, and availability with no real brand preference.

Sta-Set X is the Devil. I don't even think they make it any more. Yale is much to be preferred over New England, IMO.

I like Samson and New England Ropes. I’m currently replacing my Samson with N.E.R. Viper. It has a dyneema core and is just as easy to splice as any Samson double braid. After using Viper for the last few weeks I’m very happy with it. I no longer have to adjust the tension on my halyards after the initial hoist.

Gee, I don't know, Ford vs Chevy? Toyota vs Nissan? They're all good respected manufacturers that have reputation's over decades. I would make my decision on local availability and price.

if you're happy with stay-set X, you'll be happy with anything.
If you can stomach the price dyneema cored polyester is wonderful stuff.

+1 on Viper. discovered this a few weeks ago, replaced traveller line first with 8mm from 10mm Sta-Set. so much better, then halyards fro VPC....good hand and very low stretch. Sorry no experience with Yale or others.

Marlow too.

Staset X was invented by Satan. Don't. Either polyester DB or Dyneema core.

As a Rigger i use StatsetX alot, when exotic line is not needed, which is most of the time, price is better than most other brand's of the same quality, and that's the point for me, sure you can buy cheaper line, but doesn't have the quality, sure don't get the SATAN issue stated above, not my experience for sure.

I buy all my cordage from Cajun Rope co. in Canada. Quick service and much cheaper.

It's the splicing of it we object to primarily--those windings around the core are just stupid--but a secondary issue is the stiffness it takes on after some use.
Marlow is making a low-grade dyneema product, called "club" which is far superior to Sta-setX with a much better price point than other poly-covered dyneema. Sort of an answer to X, or Yale's Aratech. Perfect for the cost-conscious cruiser who needs low stretch.

Do you use it on your boat? I did, two boats ago. I'm not sayin' it didn't function for a moderate price, but I was glad to see it go.

Mostly, I dislike the way it handles compared to other choices. Not a compromise I (or many) like. Satan is an exaggeration (just havin' a bit of fun), just tryin' to let folks know that it is different.
