Looks like a bracket to hold a Danforth-style anchor.

What they said - its a hanger for a danforth style anchor. It does appear to have slipped down the stanchion, to use it you will want it further off the deck.

Not necessarily. If you store it with the shaft up, you'll just need to find a way to secure it.

It's a special sheet-fouling tack preventer. For proper function, you need to insert a Danforth anchor into. I had one on my previous boat. Remarkably effective!

Love it! What you need are jumping wires - as in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_wire
They worked for U boats.

I would try some kind of small plastic cap which will just fit over the stock of your Danforth or Fortress anchor, drill a couple of holes through the sides of it & feed a length of shock cord through, long enough for you to clip the ends onto your pulpit or guardwires, somewhere a good way away each side so any snagging sheet can just slide up & over it - you get the idea.

Hi Ann,
I have a Fortress FX 85 - 47 pounds with its storage red bag. As a backup storm anchor - I can't find a rail mount bracket beyond the weight of 35 pounds limit.

Q) Is it best to leave it on the deck in its bag tied down or is there another solution to mount it fully assembled on the rail?
