Using an existing hanked head sail

Hi folks,
My first post...
I'm installing an Alado furling system on my Carter 33.
I'm working on a tight budget so initially will use one of my head sails.
My dilemma is:
I have two sails to choose from.
A light weight 120% Genoa or,
A heavier No 2
What does the forum think is the best sail to use?
I should note I know I will be removing the hanks off the No 2 and the Genoa does not have them.
I'm mainly concerned the genoa fabric is not strong enough. It has a couple of small repairs in it but seems in good condition. I would prefer to use it (genoa) instead of the No 2 for greater range.

Re: Using an existing hanked head sail

Is it even worth using the Genoa or number 2 since you will have to put a weather strip on it and a bolt rope as well? Have you looked on Gumtree for a used furling headsail?
Cheers

Re: Using an existing hanked head sail

PeterLeech,

Could you please give us a little more info? Where (approximately) will you be sailing? [For instance, if you lived in California, there would be a big difference between recommendations for San Francisco and San Diego.] What usual wind strengths will you encounter? What is the boat? Experience???

Thanks,

Ann
