Ubi Maior Jiber

Anyone had experience using this furling device?

UBI MAIOR Italia

They claim it reduces the weight aloft quite a bit, which is always good & my sailmaker is pushing this for a new genoa on my boat (not cheap, of course).

This was mentioned in a previous thread (I did search), but was buried in another discussion & got no replies, so trying again here,

Thanks, Martin

Sounds like it might work, but if you want to use different sails, they’ll each have to have the soft headstay connectors installed. Does your sailmaker say he can retrofit old sails, or do you have to buy new ones? Or do you only have and use the one sail?

Re: Ubi Maior Jiber

The genoa (125%) is pretty knackered, so it's time for a new one anyway.

I'm not planning on other sails for this main forestay (so the supposed advantage of being able to hoist and drop sails on the Jiber is moot).

I may put a staysail on the removable inner forestay, to avoid using the heavily-reefed No.2 (which was a mess on the old furler - a vintage Rotostay IV) in strong conditions. Winds last season seemed to be mostly F5-6, so something smaller would get a lot of use & set better. That's another furler, of course (eyeroll), though perhaps a hank-on (which I have), ready to go, would do the trick there.
