The mizzen..yea or nay

On a recent crossing I noticed that we rarely used our mizzen. Although being a small sail, I'm curious how others use this sail..if not at all. Any comments would be much appreciated!

Re: The mizzen..yea or nay

I have sailed a few ketchs. I really appreciate the ability of the mizzen to balance the helm.

It is also cool to be able to head up or bear way without touching the helm.

Re: The mizzen..yea or nay

Going to weather many ketch sailors do not hoist the mizzen but on a close to broad reach the mizzen adds quite a lot of power especially in light wind and combined with a mizzen staysail.
