tensioning inner forestay with Colligo blocks

I am replacing my inner forestay (1/4 1*19 with a turnbuckle 33' OAL) is the current set up. I don't leave it set up permentently because we tack often, I was thinking of using a highfeild lever but find them a bit pricey.

I realy like the idea of the soft Dyneema stay for this aplication and the Colligo set up with the Terminator and Chainplate Distributors lock like a great option to the highfeild. Question is can I get engough purchase without running the lashing tail to a winch? The check / runners for the staysail are Dyneema run back to winches.

Anyone using the CSS71 ST and CSS61BLK combo?

thanks

Re: tensioning inner forestay with Colligo blocks

The Colligo deadeyes (yes, I know he calls them 'terminators,' but really they're just nice deadeyes) take a while to set up--far longer than a highfield lever would--and you wouldn't want to do it at sea.
You don't need a winch: you can use a handy-billy on a halyard, but you do need more advantage than you can get by hand on the lanyard tail.

Re: tensioning inner forestay with Colligo blocks

One solution is to run the inner stay in place with enough tail to stow it at the shrouds.
The line across the deck clears the forward hatch.

Slightly ease the runners, check stays also slacken.
Tension the check stays with the twing.
Tension the inner forestay.
Crank on the runners & check stays.

A small winch just forward of the hatch can provide enough purchase to drag the inner stay with a hanked on sail across the deck.

With halyard and sheets already attached the operation can be handled without going on deck.

I had fears of creating an inversion condition during deployment.
It appears those fears were unfounded
