Don't forget to pick a pretty one - you will be looking at it for a while

Re: Symmetric or Asymmetric Spinnaker for Simplicity?

Regarding sail numbers in the kite, I would not worry about it, even if it's the wrong number, noone will really care about it. It's just a number.
In the worst case you design a nice logo and apply it in a way that integrates/covers the number if it bothers you.
Apart from that all the above, and yes pick one which matches your boats exterior.

Good luck Chotu, would love to see pictures of your mystery boat.
Btw. Do you already have a name for her? "Mystery" would perhaps fit well. Or "Suspense".
Most of us in here are excited for you!

Oooof. They are ALL ugly. Lol.

They are all rainbow stripes and stuff. I need either a white one or a black one. Not happening.

If you want black you could probably achieve that with spray on fabric dye after you test out the spinnaker and confirm that you're happy with it.

I've used this stuff to mark nylon lines before, so I don't see why it wouldn't work on a nylon spinnaker: https://www.amazon.com/Tulip-ColorSh...s%2C105&sr=8-1

Not a bad idea!

Would that work on regular Dacron sails too?

After trying these out I may just do this.

I think I tested it on a polyester (dacron) line once and it worked. That stuff is what I use to mark the rope portion of my anchor line FWIW. As far as I can tell, the markings will outlast the useful life of the line.

Re: Symmetric or Asymmetric Spinnaker for Simplicity?

Chotu, check with these guys:

https://www.ritdye.com/instructions/...thetic-fibers/

I'm a bit sceptical though if you get an even black when the sail is multicolored.
Apparently it's essential to wash out any excess dye after the dying process. Otherwise you end up with color everywhere.

Last not least, I hope this does not weaken the fabric. The dye needs to be almost "boiled in at 93degree centigrade" after all.

Make some trials first.

Nevertheless a bit sceptical that this will work. Maybe search some other used sail stores instead.

I almost bought a bright red one for us from eBay small ads. Missed it and was not happy. Luck had it two days later there was another bright red one with sock for the same one.
Patience! I know it's hard, I lack that myself to some degree.

Re: Symmetric or Asymmetric Spinnaker for Simplicity?

Thanks for the tips on the coloring.

I got the all-radial. It’s almost completely white except for the blue corners. So it’s not bad at all. Just turning the blue corners black would do it. Even just running it blue is fine for now. I’m not going to worry too much I have a lot of other cosmetic issues to worry about. Ha ha

It seemed to be in fairly decent condition. We opened the sail up all the way and I went over it. He was saying there was a pinhole or two somewhere that they were going to patch but I didn’t see any. That’s part of the service they go over the complete sail before they give it to you. And they are going to put it into an ATN spinnaker sock so I can just hoist the thing and use it.

Monday the guy from gunboat is coming down to start taking the measurements so that he can get going on the rigging and sail control part of the project while I am moving the boat up to him at the old gunboat facility area in the Carolinas.

Things couldn’t be more exciting right now. A lot of money going out. But I did save for this part. I knew it was going to be a lot.
