STUCK FURLING SWIVEL

I recently had a job halyard failure and my sail slid down and off the track (foil) ending up
In the water.

When the upper swivel came down it became jammed on the sail receiving piece. I have tried numerous things to get the swivel unstuck - straps with pressure / mallet with hammer and block of wood / heat... all at the same time even. The swivel refuses to budge.

It is an older Furlex System and I've been told by a rigger parts are not available. So the solution is to get the piece unstuck and keep it functioning or I'm looking at having to get a new furler...$$$!!!

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Re: STUCK FURLING SWIVEL

I once had success separating a "frozen" bearing encasement by taking it to a local automotive repair shop. 'just a thought.

Re: STUCK FURLING SWIVEL

Ok, this cannot be difficult, it slid there with the force of gravity right.
You tried everything you know.
So my suggestion now is to get a rigger or an engineering type person to unjam it using his ideas.
A fresh look and attempt should work. There is no way that it will not slide back up unless it somehow slid over a ridge that stops it sliding back the way it got there.
Please keep us informed with the progress.

Re: STUCK FURLING SWIVEL

Possibly the top swivel slid down over the foil sail gate.

Parts E1 & E2 on pg 11.

If your sail came out of track ,these parts may have been missing.
