Sta-set Core Dependant?

Hi all;

Can anyone tell me if NER's Sta-set (not Sta-set X) is core dependant? The construction looks similar enough to Samson's XLS that I think it is not, but I need to make sure.

Re: Sta-set Core dependant?

Sta-Set is balanced. Half the load is in the cover. It's quite stretchy. Good for mainsheets and not much else.

Re: Sta-set Core dependant?

The reason I ask is I want to know if it is ok to use the same splicing methods used for XLS. I know that one, and it seems easier to me.

So does Balanced = core dependent? Sampson has different splices for core dependent, and not. (class I and class II they call them)

No, it is not core dependent. You can use the normal double braid splice (that you use for XLS).

Re: Sta-set Core dependant?

You have the right answers to your question.

It would be easy to be confused by the name "core dependent", because all cored ropes "depend" on the core, but what they really mean here is that nearly all the strength is in the hi-tech core, so special splicing is needed.
