Spreader arm repair

I need to repair/replace a spreader arm on a 36ft 1965 low aspect sloop, only one set of wooden arms. Aluminum mast. There are four lower shrouds, two on each side. Found a small area of wood rot at the base of the port arm. Bracket is metal and fine. Can I remove and replace this with out stepping the DECK stepped mast? Do I need to replace both arms?? Thanks for anyone's advice. J

Re: Spreader arm repair

of course you can replace them without removing the mast, use a halyard on one side as a temporary shroud and remove the damaged spreader, duplicate the old one and replace. then the same on the other side, Make the new ones out of teak and paint the topside with white paint to protect from the sun, leave the bottom side teak and varnish for to look nice.
