Re: Roller furling

We have a Plastimo. Inexpensive and works fine.

I would buy again.

Re: Roller furling

Trawl boatyards ! First one I ever had was a furlex. Been dumped by the owner as it needed new bearings and didn't shine enough for his boat

barnakiel:

Plastimo has both furling and reefing roller systems.
Which do you have?

Prowl ebay and Craig's List in major yachting centers, one will turn up cheap within a couple of months.

+1
I've had two of these cheap, tough and utilitarian jiggers.
No need for a new forestay and can be installed without dropping the mast.

Re: Roller furling

Boat yards, craigslist, e-bay. In that order. With the recession of the past 5-6 years the yards which do junk work are full of parts for sale. Just bring cash and means to transport it or take it apart. Last winter when I decided to change to roller furler main I scored a 3250 Hood furler off of a guy on craiglist for $100. He wanted $300 but there were no takers since it was middle of December and the 45ft thing could not be taken apart easily for transportation. As my yard was literally 300 yards away from his and he new ours was a working yard (as opposed to his which was fancy-shmancy) he let it go for $100. After shortening it by about 3ft and installing a brand new Stalok which I got from a rigger directly for $60 and after a few hours of boatyard guy's cost I have a nice roller furler main. The rigging outfits' lowest estimates were around $3000 for new furler with install. Ouch...
