Removable inner stay tension

I bought a boat that has a removable inner forestay. It is not a solent stay, but rather a true removable inner forestay that is about one foot aft of the forestay.

Can anyone tell me how to determine when I have the correct tension on it?

One option is to have a rigger set the tension and note the numerical position on the tensioning ratchet (it is marked with numbers).

But if I knew what the correct tensioning was, then I could simply buy the measurement gizmo that one hooks on the stay and set it myself.

So what is the right tension?

Re: Removable inner stay tension

It should be very slightly less than the forestay. Sounds like you have the Wichard adjuster for repeatability. Good piece of gear.

CAELESTIS, that makes perfect sense. One wants the forestay to continue to do it job and that means not over tightening the inner stay.
