QUESTION: Jib Bolt Rope Diameters

Fairly new boat owner here.

I can find very, very little information on bolt rope jibs and even less on standard bolt rope diameters for tracks. Most seem to be using hanks nowadays.

My question is this: Does the boltrope for a jib exist in more than one size diameter?

Despite an obscene amount of McLube and an unnecessary amount of force (we tried to winch it), we simply cannot hoist one particular jib (on our fairly new boat, bought in the spring) due to the diameter of the jib boltrope. Context: the other jibs seem to work fine.

Thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: QUESTION: Jib Bolt Rope Diameters

Yes there are maybe 5 different diameters. You can measure the diameter of the luff rope on the sails with calipers. If it is to big you can take to a sailmaker to change it.

Re: QUESTION: Jib Bolt Rope Diameters

The critical dimension is not the bolt rope itself but the luff tape diameter. i.e. the total diameter of rope plus cover.

From https://www.precisionsailloft.com/bl...-jib-or-genoa/

"Furling head sails attach to your furling system using luff tape. It is a cord or rope warped inside of a tape. Each Furling System will have a specific luff tape size that will slide nicely up the track without coming out while under force. The best way to measure the tape is to use Calipers that can measure in millimeters. If you don't have a set use a set of drill bits and either slide them up the track in your furling system or hold them up to the luff tape on your existing sail to determine the proper size.

Notice that the numbers are the numerators for 32nds.
