Re: Pin for a aluminum hinge, anchor locker

I’ve never seen a hinge manufacturer sell replacement hinge pins. I think you’ll need to fabricate them or buy new hinges.

Those might be Marinium hinges which I think Perko makes now. Other companies make that pattern in stainless. The trick is finding one that matches the hole pattern. Just checked, looks like Perko discontinued that pattern, sorry.

Is there a marking on the back?

You may be able to find dowel fine enough. pre-soak in Epoxy, the let cure. Sand smooth. Use as temporary pins till you find something manufacatured. They probably come from Germany.

Thumbs up Re: Pin for a aluminum hinge, anchor locker

thanks, for the responses i thought i saw some for goiot hatches so i thought their would be some for hinges. i will try hardware store, homedepot etc. good idea on wooden dowel
the boat is at a yard getting a bottom job and should be done by friday, i'll ck hinge to see if there is a manuf. stamp on it.
seems a common hardware choice for baltic, the 43 i just purchased has same issue, frozen and nearly tore screws out trying to ck anchor locker. will change to stainless on her.
thanks again

Wooden pin? Come on... I don't think so.

The pin was almost certainly stainless. Although finding stainless rod at local stores may be a little tough, a cut-off bolt will work. Some plumbing parts. Or order the rod from McMaster Carr or similar. Or Amazon for $10. Can you tap the other out and measure?

McMaster-Carr is your friend. Look for stainless steel roll pins. Available in more sizes than you can count, likely even in metric if so needed. Unlikely original was aluminum.

Re: Pin for a aluminum hinge, anchor locker

If the pin is aluminum, should be able to find an alum. rod at many hardware stores (HD, Ace, etc.) and cut to fit. This will be much cheaper and quicker than ordering from McMaster.

Biggest effort will be to get the correct diameter. Best way may be to take a part of the hinge w/you to test fit.

Should be an easy fix once your source the rod stock.

Re: Pin for a aluminum hinge, anchor locker

just get a long screw and cut the shank or get SS round stock.

You're right, probably not my best idea. But if it were an out in the boonies situation, I bet you could work something out with s/s seizing wire.

For pins, etc, he's going to have to remove the hinge and test for fit at the store.

San Francisco? Go to Home Depot or equiv. You will find aluminum rod in 36 inch length. Various diameters. OR go to McMaster Carr on line.

This is easy unless you are in the hinterlands.

Well guess what? I drifted out the remaining slug that was left in hinge. It’s made of fiberglass! Click image for larger version
