LOOONG double jaw shackle?

I'm looking for a longer double jaw shackle, 3/8" wire and 3/8" pin. I am replacing the bow sprit on the boat and the new tang is just a wee bit too far out. I can get the furler on, and I have about 3 threads left, but I would like to have a bit more thread.

The bob stay has a double jaw shackle that is maybe 3/4" longer than the one on the furler, so I know they exist. But I can't find one.

From my research the shortest ones are Hayn or Lewmar at 2-1/4" and the longest are Alex Roberts at 2-3/4".

At best that will only get me a half inch.

Any other ideas for lengthening the turnbuckle about 1 to 2 inches would be welcome.

Well I got excited at first (easily done) but I don't think that will work. It rotates the pin 90deg. I would need to put two in series.

Would work, but kinda ugly.

Have a machine shop make up two link plates. These are relatively Common in furling systems, often to raise the drum up above the anchor.

You can buy them . . . But custom is relatively inexpensive (it's essentially just drilling two holes in some 316 flat bar) and they will be exactly the length you want.

Well, I've got some 1/4" left over. Maybe I'll make 'em myself.

But I've been chewing up bits like no ones business. Actually bending shanks (3/8" reduced shank bits) drilling 3/4" holes in 1/2" 316.

Re: LOOONG double jaw shackle?

Broke down and ordered a C S Johnson Stay Extender.

For the cost, and because it comes with pins already, it wasn't worth my time to try to do otherwise.

Evans, thanks for your reply. You gave me the words to google to get what I needed.

But I did get some VERY interesting pics looking " stay extenders."

Never knew such things existed.
