Is fabric softener effective?

The 14 mm sheet lines are pretty hard, stressing the cam cleats. I have been replacing a lot of rope, but it occurs to me that fabric softener has been used by others. And the boat came with a jug of it further pressing the issue. What say the experts who have used it?? TIA.

Re: Is fabric softener effective?

Washing the lines tied up in a pillow case will do the job. Never used fabric softener though.
