hypalon material for mast boot

I have 72"x12" section of hypalon material from when I was trying to repair a ruptured inflatable tube.

I am wondering if that can be a good material to fabricate mast boot.

I have the white 4" mast sealing tape that I would use to finish the seal at the top.

Be pushed to think of anything better. Make a thin cardboard template first so you don't waste any as you can probably make a couple with that.

Hypalon would be an excellent matrinerial, as it will most likely last 10+ years without a problem. I made one out of the same some years back, and had it cover a Spartite installation, which was a bit expensive, but worth every penny.

I had spartite on my old boat. Epoxy degrades in UV, so I always kept it covered with the boot tape. This time around i am just going to make mast wedges out of mahogany planks. Then cut off hypalon in appropriate shape then mast boot over top of hypalon to keep in place.

Here is another suggestion that we have been using for more than a decade and we think is terrific. Actually looking back it has been 15 years since we last installed it.

It’s a bit hard to find but we did buy some recently from
pacific offshore rigging in San Diego. We wanted to have some on hand when we pull the stick for inspection and painting

We have it covered with sunbrella.

The tape is very thick and made specifically for mast boot applications.

Highly recommend it

That’s uncured rubber roofing tape, available anywhere they sell rubber roofing materials. I use it myself.

Hmmmm. I have used the roofing tape many years ago to seal a section of an old house my friend lived in. It don’t remember it even being close to this mast boot tape that I used.

Have you used this tape that I recommended?

Re: hypalon material for mast boot

Hypalon worked pretty good. We've been drenched for the past 4 days and boot is not leaking.
