Re: How can I tell if my chain plates need to be replaced?

Good move, they do make them and at reasonable prices and do a good job.

Re: How can I tell if my chain plates need to be replaced?

Those are a very European style of chain plate. I have never noticed an American made boat with the giant u-bolt style before. I think it is a good method, just unusual. There is a thread here on CF about a Contest 33 (European) that gives a name of an outfit that has repaired/rebuilt this type of chain plate. I think it was in Florida. It might be worth looking into. Just a thought. _____Grant.
