Hog rings
Hi all,
Does anyone know a source for SS hog rings in Australia?
I want 3/8 blunt ended loose rings.
Trying to avoid buying such a paltry item from England as I did some years ago.
Thanks

Re: Hog rings
How many do you need? We just bought 100 from Amazon here in the US. It was $9 US. But we need maybe 10 or 20 of them. PM and I'll send them to you, if you have the time to wait.

Re: Hog rings
Thanks Bill
Appreciate the offer but if I have to go international I'll go back to UK or to Amazon and get a couple of hundred; almost finished the 50 I got some years ago.
The rings never wear out of course but the shock cord I use them on doesn't like the sun much!

Now you know why we bought them! Same use. We have 8 winches on the boat, so we need 8. They last about 5 years. We have a 60 year supply. Seriously. It will cost me $1.20 to send them USPS. PM me your address and I'll send you 50 of them.

Re: Hog rings
We had a hard time finding "hog rings" in Oz about 25 yrs. ago. At the time, we were told they were called "fence clips". Now, I just did as Stu M suggested, and Googled "what are 'hog rings' called in Australia," and the first page was all sources for hog rings!. Sizes listed in Yank talk, 3/8" vs. 10 mm. And, also ads for hog ring pliers, too! all sizes!
Time flies!

Re: Hog rings
Thanks Jim,
I've tried all these variations of internet searches and just draw a blank on SS 3/8th blunt ended hog rings; in retail quantities anyway. I could get a 2.5kg box!
My pliers take a "twisted" type ring; one at a time. A lot of the search hits are for cartridge type C-rings which are flat and all joined together like staples, and shaped to fit into a particular type of applicator.
Most are not SS, most are sharp pointed.
Suprisingly I have asked a sailmaker and two riggers for them and they don't use/have them.

Just to set the record straight, JPA Cate ain't Jim, it's Ann (JPA=Just Plain Ann). Seems to confuse quite a few folks. I'm always happy to take credit for her usually wise words, but fair's fair!

Re: Hog rings
Ann here. We've never had proper hog ring pliers. Whichever one of us is doing it, we just use regular pliers, carefully.

On the way tomorrow. 50 clips, offset, blunt ends. Stainless. You can buy me a beer next time I'm in Queensland. Seriously, it's $2 US. I can afford it!
