Harken 56 Two-Speed Winch - Conversion to Electric

Got a harken 56 2 speed. I know it can be converted to electric but it is rather expensive and they want it shipped to the factory to do it. Really cannot go without it to readily.

Anyone ever done this conversion? Is it all that difficult? Parts availability?

It probably requires a new base and main shaft. There is an electromechanical disconnect when you use the winch handle.

56 2 speed, halyard? Can you cross winch?
