Re: Furler put on in wrong orientation

It sounds like the outside cover rotated a bit, just loosen the clamp screw, and rotate to the correct position. You may need to re-lead the furling line from the cockpit, to get it lead around stanchion/headstay…..

Re: Furler put on in wrong orientation

Yeah, I had this happen once when we bought a new headsail. Easy enough to fix, though it takes some time to rerun the lines per the advice of BlueChart.

Yards, particularly small yards, have to be familiar with a wide variety of equipment, some of which is new to them. It it's otherwise a good yard, I usually let small mistakes go. We don't have enough yards, particularly in the Northeast US, so I cut them a great deal of slack.

Cheers and Happy Holidays to all the fine folks who visit this fine website.

Re: Furler put on in wrong orientation

I have a Harken Mark 1 roller furler and I once stepped the mast with furler rope opening facing forward. I had to remove the pin holding up forestay and rotate stay and furler 180 degrees so the rope opening was in proper orientation. There may be a way to turn the furler housing independent of the headstay but I couldn't figure out how.

When performing this operation I loosened the back stay and I had inner forestay to support the mast when disconnecting headstay. If you have to go this route ensure the mast is supported and that you will be able to get the pin back in after removing.
