Forespar Whisker Pole - How to replace attachment for topping lift

Hello everyone,


I have a ~20yr old Forespar Aluminum whisker pole. At the outboard end, there is what appears a loop of line for attaching the topping lift on top and possibly fore/aft guys on bottom. This is not the wire rope strap located at the center of the pole.


Has anyone replaced this line and if so, how did you do it? Is it simply a loop of line, so cut the old, but splice the new in place?

Zencra - I did not find anything on the internet or in the manual that showed how to replace this line. I emailed Forespar, but received no response.


So far I've kept using it, just in very light conditions should it fail.

Such poor form from Forespar as I've had the same experience. I've also emailed Sailing Services in Florida with no result. They're usually very good and I did but the pole from them but again I've heard nothing. I'm about to cross the Atlantic again and really don't want to have to jury rig the pole. Maybe they know the line is an issue.

If it is a telescoping pole, perhaps the line is secured inside the pole? Remove end cap, and take a look? It might just pry out, unscrew, or be held in by set screws, possibly corroded. Generally speaking, if something was assembled by humans, humans can take it apart. Sometimes people hide screws under stickers.
