Favorite Machine Shop in the State of Florida?

Hi everyone.

I’ve finally got some progress going on with my rig and I need one bit made for it.

I need to find a machine shop that has a big brake.

I need them to bend 4 (qty) 104” x 7.96” pieces of 5056-T6 aluminum sheet.

Like the attached drawing.

Anyone know of a place? What’s your favorite machine shop?

Thanks!

PS: I’ll even go anywhere the the USA if they can get it done and to Florida quickly

Also, what aluminum is a mast typically made out of? What grade and hardness?

Usually 6061-T6 is my understanding.

The shop will need to know the thickness. Plus, T6 temper doesn't bend well without cracking, but maybe your bends are large enough.

Sorry, can't help with a shop recommendation.

It’s 1/4”. Just the hair thicker than the mast.

And thank you. I was assuming it was 6061 – T6 but I wasn’t sure.

Re: Favorite Machine Shop in the State of Florida?

I've had Garhauer custom make a winch base for my mast out of aluminum and it came out very nice. They are in CA.

When I lived in Houston the company I worked for had a company called Custom Precision Sheetmetal make all their parts, and they did good work.

Re: Favorite Machine Shop in the State of Florida?

5052 might be the best combo of formability and corrosion resistance, but that's just from a quick google, you should do your own research, and talk to whoever is quoting.

IMO many shops are going to avoid replying to an inquiry like this because of the strange shape (would a simpler shape not work? Something with one big radius or a few well defined bends?) lack of tolerances, possibly unusual material specification (I think it's unusual to bend T6, should be annealed (?)), and low quantity. It just doesn't pass the eye test as customer knows what they want/something that's going to be easy to make money on. These thoughts are related to your other posts about nobody wanting to do work, etc. The form of the RFQ matters, especially as a customer going in with no previous relationship, when 99% of competent shops are already booked weeks in advance with work they're comfortable with for customers they've worked with before.

If you have some 1:1 templates then I think any plate forming shop can do this with their roller banks?
