Dyneema - 7/64 inside 3/16 as sheathing?

Has anyone used larger diameter of dyneema/amsteel as sheathing over smaller diameter? That just came to mind while playing around with some scraps and a 7/64 soft shackle.

Thoughts? Would it increase strength at all? The knot end would of course exit from the center of the yellow. How to tame the unraveling? Whip it I guess?

Not sure it would increase strength as most fail around the knot.

It would help with Chaffe and some people do this as a sacrificial layer. Need to ensure the cover is in that correct spot and the shackle does not rotate in use.

I assume you are saying Dyneema inside of Dyneema.

Why? Probably cheaper, and certainly easier to just buy larger Dyneema. And you wouldn't need to worry about the core slipping inside the cover.

typically a different braid/weave for the cover is used correct? As the cover is to just protect the core not for strength.

Is there double braid dyneema?

You would not add strength, unless you managed to engage the strands of the bigger line in the load. Might as well use bigger line.
Dyneema cover is usually 32 or 48-plait--it's tubular and looks like flat tape on the spool, and comes in a range of sizes. It's much better than putting one piece of 12-strand into another. NER has just begun making it in black as well as white.
There is double braid Dyneema: check out Maffioli's "Ultrawire" NER and Marlow both make a double-braid dyneema for lifelines--I've used some of that to make soft shackles, but it's a pain. For your purposes, a bit of Dyneema sleeve over the shackle body is what you want.

I may be wrong. But my 1) covers are usually softer than the core. 2) heat is the enemy of dyneema.

Based on the above, I would really recommend against it
