Disassembling profurl LC42

I am removing the Furler drum to replace the halyard swivel. Is the flat head screw circled in the photo critical to the removal of the furler drum unit from the lower end? There are two flat head screws 180° from each other...meaning there is another one opposite the one you see in the picture on the other side of the drum Thank you!

I'm asking because I can't coax the drum off the foils by tapping downward on top of the drum with a block of wood and hammer.

Re: Disassembling profurl LC42

as far as I remember these two screws go into holes in the lowest extrusion/foil. on the models I have in mind these are sort of grub-screws with the inner 50% of their length without thread & "turned down" to 1/2 or 1/3 the diameter of the threaded part. gave trouble during operation occassionally: if they loosened slightly so their thin portion didn't engage the foil any more same slid down a little bit & the whole furler jammed. I'm talking about early 90ies profurl, no modelnumber known

Yep, and they are only screwed into the plastic of the drum so don't get too enthusiastic with torque when you put them back in. Also, it's not a bad idea to climb up the mast and attach a halyard to the top of the foil to take the weight before you unscrew them.
