Difference between Anderson winches?

I'm looking now at getting an Anderson winch. I don't mind buying used, and there are several options on eBay. Some have black on the top, others are stainless. From what I can tell these are "regular" stainless, however I can't find any info on what this actually means. Does that mean, bronze internal parts and stainless exterior? Any particular reason one should go for the full stainless?

Re: Difference between Anderson winches?

Mine have bronze gears and carcass.
Reliable, easy to service, but the pawl springs aren't as readily available as some other brands in Aus.

Anderson winch handles were garbage. The pressed stainless shanks separated from the fabricated head through crevice corrosion in around 5 years of hard use and the lock lever corroded off. Next generation weren't any better. It looks like there is now a new gen handle but I have long lost the faith.

Re: Difference between Anderson winches?

I have all Anderson winches,(now owned by Ronstan) from the classic to the newer stainless, which I just finished servicing

All have bronze bases and gears.....

The stainless cover is better than the black plastic one, which can get brittle, but that is a cosmetic thing.

I agree with the crap handles..... What is the best substitute?

Download the manuals to see the differences.
