So in preparation for our jump over to NZ I was going over the blocks for the stay sail, main and mizzen booms on our cutter/ketch, I am wondering if they are properly sized along with the sheets
All the blocks will take a maximum 19mm line. By Lewmar
, these blocks are I am sure original, 1999 era. The stay sail sheet is 16mm, the main is 12mm and the mizzen is 12mm. All things being equal I would have thought that the main sheet would have been as large or larger than the stay sail. Obviously all the blocks are oversized for the sheets
although could be a loading issue. When sailing a stay sail or storm sail under high winds maybe the typical loads are higher than typical loads on the main as your are reefing in higher winds.
I certainly do not want to under size the blocks so if some one could give me an opinion or sources for calculating loads based on sail size and wind
speed that wold be helpful. CT 56, new hank on storm and full stay sail, inmast roller furling
main and mizzen. Fiddle, becket, cam one side with fiddle on the other up to 19mm line approximately $1,000.00 US.
