Best prices for ropes replacement
I need to give some TLC to my old Cat. The FL sun is relentless, so time to change all ropes and lines, including all 3 reef lines, main sheets, roller furling, and on and on.
I usually just go to West Marine, but this time around I am thinking someone in the US in this group may know outfits with better pricing.
If you have done some on-line shopping and love the prices, please gives us a link to that vendor.
Thanks

Re: Best prices for ropes replacement
Sailing services is a wholesale line supplier for New England ropes and a few other brands. If you want to go real cheap then miami cordage makes their own line but it is cheap.

Remember that you get what you pay for.
With that warning, a decent, cheaper version of high-end can be found at Sensible Rigging in Jamestown, RI.
The cheapest of the cheap (Novabraid--shudder!) can be found (along with better options) at R&W Ropes in New Bedford.

Re: Best prices for ropes replacement
I recently purchased a couple hundred feet of double braid with good advertised breaking strength from 'gardinice' on eBay. When I went to splice I found that they had sent parallel core (used for trawling) which is unsplicable. Got a partial refund but still pretty unhappy. I got what I deserved for going cheap!

Defender has been price competitive for me when I shop on line AND they will splice the lines.

Carlosproa,
Check out Miami Cordage or Sailing Services. Both excellent places in Miami.

Re: Best prices for ropes replacement
We replaced and upgraded all our running rigging on our catamaran in 2021. We bought NE Viper 10mm and 11mm from Defender. The prices were excellent. We also bought some Sampson MLX3 in 6mm for our spinnaker traveler lines and jib down haul as NE Viper is not made in that thin a line. Prices were much less than elsewhere.

Re: Best prices for ropes replacement
I'm not in the same country as the poster but I buy my lines from a marine store that sells primarily to fishermen. It's good quality but because it isn't targeted to the yacht crowd it's a fraction of the cost. I've checked places like West Marine and was shocked by what they were asking.

Re: Best prices for ropes replacement
Do your halyards etc. have eye splices? If your provider is local, it may be a good idea to take each of your old ropes (?) to them. They can then match colour and sizing exactly. You can attach any wanted modification notes to each sample. This would require that all the removed halyards would need a pull through strings installed to allow the new halyards to be installed. (Essential for in mast halyards.) This may be a bit expensive but there may be savings as the provider will have cheaper access to rope than you. Also, no wastage and a professional job for any splicing/eyes etc.
If colour coding is not important then you can always try a bit of socialism. Many years ago, in a large marina I asked other boat owners what they may need (rope wise). We then purchased full rolls where possible and cut the ropes ourselves. The savings were considerable and many purchased extra rope lengths for future use because the price was so much better. As I recall, we did manage to get green, red and blue in sufficient quantities.
Looking at an Aus. Whitworths catalogue, 12 mm 2600kg double braid is $4.95 per m or $371 for a 100 m roll or $3.71 per m. That's clearly a saving of over a dollar per m. Some other ropes have even more dramatic price mark ups for cut lengths. Also, if you are buying full rolls and possibly a few rolls, then ware houses may do really good deals.
Internet checking is definitely worth while.
