For reasons unknown to me metric is normally used with diameter and imperial with circumference in bi-lingual societies such as Straya..

I have thought of a use for some of it on a 17 ton boat... tripping line on a drogue or sea anchor.. is there a prize?

Are you going to share name of maker or the type of fibre?

Re: 330 meters of 10mm nylon twisted 3 strand rope

Is it polysteel rope?? https://www.google.ca/search?q=what+...w=1366&bih=643

Polyethylene rope is very slippery compared to polypropylene.

http://www.polysteel.ca/spec_sheets.php

10mm dia is roughly 3/8" dia.
Don't often see circumference used as measure except for very large 2+" rope.

Hope this helps/Len

Ah, thank you for the linguistic clarification...

AND, for embarrassing me somewhat. I DID know the manufacturer and model of the rope, there was a little square of paper loose inside the clear plastic wrapper. So... I took that inside and Googled it, and found the manufacture and what the rope was made of. But no SWL, so I phoned the manufacturer.... and waited... and phoned them again.... and waited....

And then I lost the bit of paper.

This was all six months ago, and a LOT has happened in my life since then, I can tell you.

So, no, I cannot remember the name of the manufacturer, OR exactly what the rope was made of.

Now I am cleaning up the shed, and the rope is giving me the ****** so I decided to see if there was a use for it on the boat that I had missed. (Hence also my previous post on the 100 feet of old anchor rope.)

And yes, being the king of string, I figured you'd have some ideas.

I do have a trip line for the drogue, thank you, good suggestion. It is about 1000 times stronger than this green stuff, then the drogue line itself is 1000 times stronger again. (OK, some exaggeration, but I suppose the point is I have lines I TRUST for the drogue)

Sorry, no prizes, other than the warm fuzzy glow you get when you help some clueless online twit with something that eludes them totally but is obvious to you. (Called smugness by some less charitable types.)

The thing is, I found the manufacturer, and the rope itself on their web site (but no prices) and even their web site lacked any data on strength, so to me this implies it is a basic service rope with no real quality controls around strength that you'd see with specialty ropes.

I'll see if I can get the photo I took with my phone on here somehow.

That's possible. Whatever name they used on the web site was some kind of proprietary name, so it might have been their name for polypropylene.

My polyprop is blue... and yellow .. and white

Green is fishermen's polyprop ... they use green so it blends in with the sea... enhances the chances of unsuspecting yachtsmen getting it round their props..

Costs about 50c a metre... 10MM X 50MTR POLYPROPYLENE ANCHOR ROPE - $25.00 : Sydney Rope Supplies

With the yellow flecking in one strand, it looks a lot like like Donaghy P/P Aquatec.

Re: 330 meters of 10mm nylon twisted 3 strand rope

Every crayfisherman that I know of in Sth Australia use 12mm orange polyprop. rope on their pots.
Most use an oxy torch to cut the coil in half after one season's use & trash it. (so rubber necks don't scab it!)
As long as you have a relly or mate in the game you can get your fill.
Most of the boats have rope choppers on their prop shafts & this rope chops easily. (saves slipping or diving)

Re: 330 meters of 10mm nylon twisted 3 strand rope

From your pic: The way the fibres have frizzeled where cut? smacks of very cheap polyprop. I bet it is very stiff rope also.
Difficult to tell this far away, but I have seen a lot of pot warp.

But, as that site says, "Beware of imitations". And I reckon this stuff is an imitation, though of what quality I couldn't say.

I wish I could remember the name of the manufacturer, it might come to me.

If you just want to find it a good home put it next to the garbage skip at your marina..

If you want to find it a good home in a hurry put it *in* the skip........

Then the next thing you know, it will reappear as the rode on the ratty boat anchored just upwind from you...
