I have used propylene glycol to Winterize my
water system for years. Last year I had a significant growth of black, call it "manta"
mold. It looked like the stuff had grown in big
sheets. I am not sure what caused it last year and not other years? I did open the
boat up two weeks later this spring (early June in Southern New England) but there is probably more to it. I read that a lower propylene glycol content could contribute to
mold growth. The same reading suggested a content level of at least 35% should limit mold. I am thinking about
buying a refractor to make sure I get there. Any other ideas out there?
