Yeah. Need to differentiate between vented loops, and tank vents. The subject of this thread is vented loops. They need to be above the waterline, but do not need to be vented to outside the boat.

Re: Why are vented loops vented outside?

Greetings all,

Peggie, thank you for your wealth of knowledge!! It has been used by me many times during our refit. I have installed three Groco anti-siphon loops, one 1.5” for the head discharge, and two 3/4”, one for each head raw water supply on the manual head pumps. I know what you are thinking......This guy must have failed math class as he has two heads but only one anti-siphon discharge valve......luckily your help in designing the system led to the second head having a gravity drain holding tank system so the tank is acting as the siphon break in that application.

Now my burning question....I am looking for the air valves you recommend using on the anti siphon valves. Do you have a specific make/model/manufacturer you have found to be preferred? Since they will all be seeing salt water, are there any that are compatible with the bronze groco anti siphon valves in the salt water environment?

Thank again for your knowledge and willingness to share it. Much appreciated!!

Safe journeys,
~Jake

If you have Groco vented loops, I'm pretty sure they have integral air valves...give Groco a call...ask for Patrick 410-604-3800

If you're looking for air valves for PVC loops, each loop mfr's is different. Bosworth and Forespar are the most commonly available brands.
