What Salt Water Pump Are You Using??

I have a salt water system plumbed in my boat, for the sinks, showers and deck washes etc.

It only ever uses salt water and no it wont ever get flushed with fresh.

Seem to me that i have had a bad run of pumps so far 3 dead in 12 months, mind you they were only reasonably cheap pumps.

So I'm wondering what pumps, brand, model, other people are using and how long its lasted.

Ideally only interested in deck wash style pumps around the 40-60 psi, 4-6 Gpm.

Other options would be a bronze body impeller pump if any one has a successful pressure switch type?

Cheers in advance,

Matthew

Pump 1 - pressure switch cooked itself.
Pump 2 - Motor Died
Pump 3 - Seal between motor and pump unit leaked water into motor.

Re: What Salt Water Pump Are You Using??

I think the most common pump used is a Jabsco like this,
Jabsco Water Puppy Bronze Pump

My experience with them is that if you stay away from circuitry of the variable speed type…. they will last for years as have mine.

From you failures, some installation notes:

Mount the motor above the pump, so that electrics will always stay dry in case of a seal leak
Install a pressure accumulator to reduce the frequent stop/starts of sink use
Make sure you are checking strainer/filter and not losing prime
