Re: what is watermaker preservative?
It's sodium metabi sulfite. Can commonly be found in home brew/wine making stores for WAY cheaper than purchasing from watermaker suppliers.

Re: what is watermaker preservative?
Spectra claims theirs is not (in a roundabout way).

You are correct. Spectras powdered SC-1 storage solution is a proprietary chemical designed specifically for thier systems. It would be a very expensive mistake to use sodium metabisulfate. Buy it from us, it's a lot cheaper than repairs.

No he didn't But its so damn important to note that MetaBi will damage the Clarkpump that it is worth saying in every "what is pickling reagent thread". Otherwise people with a Spectra will damage their unit from chat room advice that is incomplete. I see this type of thing happen all the time and it costs cruisers money.

Re: what is watermaker preservative?
I see you sell MetaBi as a pickling agent, so is the use dependent on the type of pump?

Re: what is watermaker preservative?
Just a suggestion. If you store your preserved watermaker in freezing temperatures make sure your solution can prevent freeze damage. The pink antifreeze for campers potable water lines works well. My spectra it was the recommend type for long term storage.

DANGER.....WARNING......CAUTION
Do not mix the pink antifreeze in too low a concentration to save a few bucks because in low concentrations the pink antifreeze is actually Food for certain bacteria and you will come back to a rank smelly water maker that the only real way to get the smell and taste out is to change the membranes....$$$$$.....ouch!
As much as I detest the stock answer of following the manufacturer recommendation for picking....if you go it alone based on incomplete internet advice know your risks.
