It is a "Baja filter", and it separates out water and particulate matter. The end goes in one's diesel fill, and you put the [suspect] diesel in the top of the filter and clean safe to use diesel goes into your tank. That one looks made of s/s, and should last a long time. First time you avoid all the hassles of dirty fuel you will be glad it is yours.

Thanks Ann! I've read about these previously and for some reason didn't picture them being so large in my mind. It's made it on the "keep" list. I appreciate your help!
If you've not used one before, be aware that they are not fast.
Actually quite slow, so don't expect to just turn on the pump -- or even fully invert a jerrycan or you might be surprised at how much diesel gets on your shoes, shirt, pants, nearby dock workers ...
Bajafuel filter. Typically has three screens it of varying filter size. We took the finest mesh out because it slows down fueling too much. The other two do a very good job of filtering diesel without slowing everything down...
