What happens when you stick a hosepipe into your gally sink drain

Can anyone guess what happens if you stick the drain pipe from a bilge pump into a gally sink drain that leads to a thruhull, and leave it for less than 24 hrs ? I can ,sadly enough! Boats ,you gotta love'um!

we have a winner folks! Its not a good thing when the law calls at 3 in the mourning and tells you that your boat is standing on its bow,4 hrs later I am getting real fimiliar with a 2 inch trash pump...

My guess it is one of those times you don't need to take a photo because the image is seared into your brain.....

Yes, been there, done that; left the sink drain plugged at 11pm and when woke up at 3am got my feet feet. Bilge pump had failed, used a bucket and connected a spare bilge pump. Took 4 hours total to find the "leak" and drain the boat. Didnt sleep again that night...
I believe not the original setup...

Just how much damage has actually been done? Can you tell yet how much is salvageable? It sure is a lousy time of year to try and dry foam cushions!

Good luck with getting things shipshape; it must look pretty daunting at this point. I hope the work goes smoothly.

Thanks everyone ,I think I can save everything cepting the cookies and candie ! I have a dehumidifier on the job as we sit here wondering,"how could he be so goofy?" It all started a week ago when this young fellow came from LA to buy some wood. I told him he could come to NC and hangout on the boat with me and have a "working vaction" while here.. Sat night last the stuff hit the fan,we woke at 4 in the mourn. to find our shoes were starting to float! The bilge pump had failed so I jumped onto the manual pump,ok no problems,emptied the water and looked for the leak,it was coming from the water tank under the sole,that and rain water had risen enough to cover the floor boards..long story short,I got the wires from the pump fixed and then stuck the end of the drain pipe into the drain pipe on the galley sink(I unscrewed the nut from the bottom of the sink and stuck it into the drainpipe about 18-20 inchs from the thruhull) I poured some water from the lake into the bilge and tested the pump ,all's fine..As I am leaving to go to work I get on deck and I hear a gurgle sound, I did take heed but I just thought it was water going back down the pipe into the bilge,I was wrong it was the pipe siphioning water from the lake into my boat!! When I next saw her she was standing on her head(bow) and the taff rail was 6 feet up in the air! Please never make this mistake..It could have ended much worse for me, because I had just moved my boat from the end of the dock closer to the shoreline it couldnt sink completely(it was 65 ft deep just a few feet away from where she was sitting!) I also found out that there is an advantage to a boat with long over hangs,the way the boats go up at a sharp angle in the rear makes any water that gets in go to the lowest spot so, that the rear will stay dry as the bow dives down and will keep water from entering your engine...thanks again all ,but I think she will be ok,hope no one took photos ,that could be embarrasing...
