What capacity manual bilge pump?

My new/old full keeled 28 footer (Compass 28) came without a manual bilge pump.

How many GPMs should I be looking for?

Guy at the Chandlery recommended these:

Sound about right?

Any other tips for the beginner? Like plumbing routing, etc...

Thanks, Matt

Re: What capacity manual bilge pump?

I have a 26' Centaur and while I was looking for automatic bildge pumps everyone recommended around 2000 GPH.

The manual already installed in the boat is already about this size, as well, it is a good idea to have additional bildge pumps, incase of a failure or clogged hose.

Struth alors! That was quick.

I have an electric pump too, just need a manual one on a separate system to assuage my paranoia.

Thanks for the advice.

P.S. I love Centaurs.

Everyone recommends putting in a seperate through port for a second pump as well, to insure one failed system doesn't go to two.

I haven't convinced myself to put an additional hole in my boat though, i may just run a hose over the side in the event of an emergency.

Thanks, She does me well.

There is a separate hole fitting for the second system, it's just the pump and tubes that's missing.

Re: What capacity manual bilge pump?

I'm not familiar with the Henderson pumps, but I've got two of the Whale "Gusher Titan" pumps on my boat and they have worked well for over ten years now. I do carry replacement pump diaphragms and other spares.

As for pump capacity, I suggest you install the biggest one you can fit. When you need it, you need it!

In response to the original posters question in re capacity, as big as you can ship

If you ever need it you really need it....
