The variable frequency drive I'm using takes 200 to 240volt single
phase 48 to 62hz input and converts it to 3 phase at whatever the input voltage is and a frequency variable from 0 to 500hz, it's a cheap
way to get a 3 phase supply, and as I am sure you are aware 3phase elec motors don't need capacitors to start and have a much lower starting current
so you can start and run a 1.5hp motor with a trusty honda
eu20 . Problem is in UK it's difficult to source a cheap
240v motor that can connect to a Cat pump, which generally uses a 56C face plate. You can however get Baldor 3phase 1.5 hp 56C motors.
